Рядок 237:
::::# Language switching (interwiki) - you can read more about the user tests. According to this test, many readers weren't aware of the interlanguage links. This is why we've moved them. We're measuring how much more often people use these links. If our change doesn't turn out to be an improvement, we will restore the previous look. Now, the Language team (another Wikimedia Foundation team) is working on an improved Universal Language Selector. When they finish, everything related to interwiki (the list, the Wikidata link, the link encouraging for translations) will be placed together in the menu opened by clicking on the button.

::::::Файл:Wikipedia Desktop Improvements Report.pdf seems to be biased unfortunately because all the participants seem to be from India (this isn't directly mentioned for some reason, but that is what I infer from apparent look of participants, Indian websites listed and the fact that the test was performed by an Indian firm). Although taking a look at some of the websites mentioned as what the participants use I see that they do have non-English versions, for example theBetterIndia.com also has Hindi, Gujarati, and Malayalam version, as far as I am aware English is prevealingly used by people in the region. If we look at top viewing Wikipedia statistics for 20th of September for India, https://wikimedia.org/api/rest_v1/metrics/pageviews/top-per-country/IN/all-access/2021/09/20 , we see that out of 998 results 931 are for English Wikipedia. Only 50 are for Hindi Wikipedia, and so forth. Even though India is one of the richest countries, probably the richest, by language diversity, unfortunately people there, as far as in some neighbouring countries such as Pakistan do not know that you can use internet in your own language. They reserve their native or national languages to private communication and use English on the internet. It does not help that in case of Wikipedia, English Wikipedia is much bigger than Wikipedias in their native languages, and that they do have certain perception of English as the main language because of their colonial past. Of course the same is also true for some non-Asian countries, such as countries in Africa, where either English or French is used instead of local languages. On the other hand if we look at the statistics for the same date for Ukraine, https://wikimedia.org/api/rest_v1/metrics/pageviews/top-per-country/UA/all-access/2021/09/20 , out of 110 results 54 are Russian Wikipedia, 52 are Ukrainian Wikipedia, 3 are English Wikipedia. From looking at those results we see what some reading trends are. For example there is an entry on a cell, Клітина — apparently a new wave of middle and high school students have started their biology. On the other hand there is an entry on Christiano Ronaldo in Russian, :ru:Криштиану Роналду, as unfortunately Russian Wikipedia is often used for general knowledge inquiries when the reader either finds more information there (which is often the case for topics not related to Ukraine), or does not need information in Ukrainian (Ukrainian school system uses Ukrainian). Almost all Ukrainians are both bilingual (or at least have native-like compehensioncomprehension of the other language; more educated and young Ukrainians also know English and sometimes other languages) and are used to browse the internet in both languages. In case of Wikipedia we do know anecdotically that the same people choose this or that Wikipedia depending on what they are looking for. While Indian readers are even more multilingual than Ukrainians are, they certainly lack the tradition to apply their multilingualism to daily Internet use. To stay a little bit off topic, anecdotically though I also know that while people do know that it is possible to switch to another language version on Wikipedia, many do not know that it is possible to do that on mobile. One has to know that the Chinese character for "literature", 文, that can be clicked upon on mobile frontend, stands for languages, which as an idle student of Japanese I do know, but most of the people do not (and it is only on tablet or otherwise wide screen that there is also a label next to the icon). Basing on this unfortunately I do not think this test mentioned is useful for anything but illustating the sad state the local languages are at in India, and suits better to suggest another aspect for Internet decolonisation discussions, than for Desktop improvements to base work on. --<ruby><span style="color:#860">塩基</span><rt><span style="color:#060">Base</span></rt></ruby> 23:06, 21 вересня 2021 (UTC)
