Belated thanks... ред.

...for the welcome on my talk page. Since you don't like Russian, I can convey the message in English: my account here was created automatically, due to my checking out of the 2008 War in South Ossetia article on this wiki. Anyhow, what I wanted to say was that the English greeting is a little off:

Irrespective of your languages skills, you are welcomed to create your own User Page, introduce interwiki, load images, correct data, discuss problems, communicate & cooperate with community. Please, use language templates from Вікіпедія:Вавілон or create your own.

  1. "Irrespective" -> "Regardless" is, IMHO a better alternative;
  2. "Welcomed" -> Welcome - there's no need for the past tense here;
  3. "Introduce interwiki" may be confusing to newbies -> "link your user page to Wikipedia projects in other languages" is more understandable;
  4. "load images" -> Upload images is meant here, right?
  5. "with community" -> with the community - "the" is missing.
  6. "Please..." sounds too official, -> "You can..." is more easy going and friendly.
  7. "You can ask help of Community on CommunityPortal (help)" -> You can ask for further help at the [[Вікіпедія:Кнайпа (допомога)|help desk of the community portal]]

Regards.

PS: I must note (with some degree of satisfaction), that there actually *are* interwiki articles on that topic, that are even more biased than the Russian one. --Illythr 22:36, 26 серпня 2008 (UTC)Відповісти

Added:

  1. "Regardless" must also be written with "of": "Regardless of your language skills..."
  2. "You are welcome to" instead of "you are welcomed to" sounds more, well, welcoming.

As for the PS: The Russian wikiarticles on the recent military and political developments in Georgia and its breakaway republics are currently suffering from POV problems, due to all the patriotism and information war in Russia. Seeing that the corresponding articles in the Ukrainian wikipedia are even more biased makes me think that perhaps the ruwiki articles are not that hopeless and can eventually be NPOVed, once the smoke settles and most of the the "ura-patriots" go away. I wonder how this will progress over here. BTW, did you know that the welcome phrase in Russian ("Добро пожаловать!") was replaced with ("Ласкаво просимо!") on the Georgian Wikipedia?
