LANL allowed anyone to use it for any purpose, provided that the copyright holder is properly attributed. Redistribution, derivative work, commercial use, and all other use is permitted. Zunächst einmal wird bei der Quelle auf das Los Alamos National Laboratory als Urheber der Bilder verwiesen. Aufgrund des amerikanischen Gesetzes, dass alle Veröffentlichungen von amerikanischen Regierungsorganisationen in der Public Domain veröffentlich werden müssen ist also davon auszugehen, dass dieses Bild tatsächlich PD ist.

Auf den Seiten des Los Alamos National Laboratory war das Bild jedoch nicht zu finden. Jedoch fand sich ein Hinweis, dass mehrere Bilder und ein Video der Vela-Satelliten in ihrer Medienbibliothek auf Videoband auf Anfrage verfügbar sind:

Auf einer damit unmittelbar zusammenhängenden Seite wird explizit erwähnt, dass alle Fotos aus ihrer Bibliothek PD sind:

Ich denke dem Nachweis ist hier Genüge getan. Wenn nicht so möge man bitte eine Anfrage diesbezüglich an das Los Alamos National Laboratory stellen (und den obigen Quelllink angeben).
