Fill four barrels with water^ and pour it uponthe burnt-sacrifice, and on the wood. This wasdone; and he said, ^^ Do it the second time, andthey did. Then, ^ Do it the third time, and theydid. ^^The water ran about the altar; and hefilled the trench also Avith water. Then Elijah prayed,— Hear me, 0 Lord, hear me, that this peoplemay know that Thou art the Lord God. - Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumedthe burnt-sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones,and the dust, and licked up the water that was inthe trench. Xo wonder that the people fell ontheir faces and cried, ^ The Lord He is the God;the Lord He is the God. They were very ready now to slay the falseprophets at the command of the prophet. Elijah said to King Ahab, ^^ Get thee up, eatand drink ; for there is a sound of abundance ofrain.
