Svenska: Fig. l visar en 30 hkr De Laval-turbin i genomskärning. Ångan inkommer genom röret A., passerar ångsilen B och regleringsventilen D till ångkanalen E, varifrån ångan utströmmar genom munstycken på turbinhjulets C skovlar. Genom utstromningen expanderar ångan från det högre trycket i ångkanalentill det lägre, som råder i turbinhuset, och erhåller därigenom hög hastighet. Fig. 2 visar sektion genom ångkanal, munstycke och skoflar, och därav framgår hur ångans hastighet tillgodogörs av skovlarna. Munstyckena lutar under 20° vinkel emot turbinhjulet, vars skovlar är böjda, så att minsta möjliga stöt uppkommer mellan ångstrålen och skoveln.
