- Unlike English the Ukrainian alphabet is absolutely phonetic: each letter has a single pronunciation in every usage.
- The letter ь (soft sign) has no sound and can be represented in the transliteration as an apostrophe [’]
- The Ukrainian alphabet is comprised of 33 letters.
- Stress in Ukrainian can fall on any syllable in a word.
