Список 500 найкращих альбомів усіх часів за версією журналу «Rolling Stone»

Список 500 найкращих альбомів усіх часів вперше опублікував журнал Rolling Stone у листопаді 2003 року. Список складено за результатами голосування, у якому взяли участь 273 рок-музиканти, музичні критики та продюсери, кожний із яких представив свій список у 50 альбомів. Він містив альбоми, що представляли різні музичні напрямки, зокрема поп, рок, метал, панк, соул, блюз, фолк, джаз та хіп-хоп. 2005 року список вийшов у вигляді книги, вступне слово до якої написав критик Стівен Ван Зандт. Набір альбомів у книзі дещо відрізнявся від оригіналу, оскільки редактор вилучив або об'єднав деякі компіляції, звільнивши таким чином вісім додаткових місць у списку. Оновлену версію рейтингу було опубліковано в журналі Rolling Stone 2012 року.

2020 року список найкращих альбомів було суттєво перероблено. Редактори журналу вирішили не відштовхуватися від старого списку, а створити його з нуля, наново зібравши голоси понад 300 представників музичної індустрії. В результаті до 500 найкращих альбомів потрапило 154 нових платівки. Список 2020 року містив 86 альбомів, виданих у XXI столітті; в ньому поменшало рок-альбомів, але стало більше робіт соул- та хіп-хоп-виконавців. Новим лідером рейтингу став альбом Марвіна Гея What’s Going On, що змінив на верхівці списку Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band The Beatles. Наприкінці 2023 року було видано оновлену версію списку, яка серед іншого містила нові альбоми Бейонсе, Bad Bunny та Тейлор Свіфт[1][2].
