У випадковій аварії поліцейський криміналіст Баррі Аллен отримує дозу хімікатів і електричний розряд. Баррі виявляє, що ця аварія зробила його найшвидшою людиною на Землі, яка навіть може обігнати швидкість звуку. За допомогою жінки-науковиці Тіни (Крістіни) Макгі він учиться контролювати свої сили, але коли його старшого брата Джея вбивають при виконання службових обов'язків, Баррі просить Тіну зробити йому спеціальний костюм, який зможе витримати надзвукові навантаження. Він вирішує очистити вулиці міста від бандитів. Тепер його ім'я Флеш.
