The Yellow-billed Cardinal was for some time almost un-known to the average bird buyer, but lateh it has been a littlemore freely imported, and therefore not so very expensive. Inthe Brit. Mus. Tliis elegant bird is a native of Western Africaand probably also of the central part of that conti-nent, and it has been found in the mountain regionssome 400 miles east of Libreville (Gaboon). It iscommon in Princes Island, also in San Thome andAnnobon Islands. A curious fact is that these birds are migratory inboth Princes Island and San Thome, their usualhabitat being on the high mountains of the Westernor oceanic side of these islands from February untilNovember, after which they leave for the Easternregions, where they visit the plantations and lowerparts near the town of each island.
