А по-моєму, саме так і треба називати. Через православну церкву у російську мову війшов ряд грецьких термінів, а в польську через католицьку - іх латинських відповідників (типу burak - свекла). Потім вся ця латина з польської мови перекочувала в українську. Тож давайте вживати більше латинських слів. Thanks for welcoming me in the Ukrainian Wikipedia. I am indeed pretty amazed, as I don't even know a letter of you undoubtedly nice language. I don't understand why I received this welcome. I only remember I came across a Ukrainian user page a couple of days ago, because a certain Dutch guy is tremendously irritating many people in our Dutch (NL) Wikipedia. He turns out to have made user pages for himself in at least some ten and maybe even over twenty foreign-language Wikipedia's (including such languages as Spanish, Basque, Ukrainian, Hebrew and several dialects). It is extremely unlikely that he knows that many languages. Also, he is saying things about himself that are definitely not true. In at least one of his user pages he says he has a "very good command" of German. But he has written things on my German user page showing that his knowledge of German is actually very poor (see de:Benutzer Diskussion:HHahn#Pi).

(As of recently, the guy has been blocked from the NL Wikipedia, and, ad far as I understand, from the EN one, too. So I may even suggest that you contact some moderators in the NL Wikipedia for an advice as to whether or not block him from your WP as well.)

Anyhow, I wil certainly not use your Ukrainian Wikipadia, neither as a visitor, nor as an editor. I hope you understand this.

May I therefore kindly ask you to remove my user page from your Wikipedia? May I also kindly ask you to confirm that you have done so?

Kyiv, not Kiev!

I beg to consider again the question Kiev/naming (en.wikipedia.org Article "en:Kiev") that was addressed in October 2009. This question can have international legal consequences.

This is not "nationalistic pressure to change the title". It's international relations.

The official name of Ukraine's capital is Kyiv (укр. Київ).

Look here: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine — The city of Kyiv.

One more examples: The U.K. Embassy in Kyiv, The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv.

Kiev is an obsolete spelling of the city, which was used in the USSR (from рос. Киев).

When I studied English, Kyiv was Kiev . But, everything flows, nothing stands still...

It is not so easy: right/wrong. There is a problem of transliteration: three letters in Cyrillic correspond to two in Latin: і, и, ы / i, y. Ukrainian script has only two: і, и, and after Ukrainian standards they transliterate to Latin as i, y, but there is also international standard for transliteration en:ISO 9 where they are í, i. Third letter in word Киѣв is ѣ in fact. This letter is absent in any modern script. It is read differently in different languages ​​and even in different positions: Russian Киев, Polish Kijów, Ukrainian Київ and genetive Києва. And here's another problem. English y is read in open syllable as ai. So maybe better "Keeyiv", that is what it is read like? :(

I am Ukrainian-Canadian, so I do care about this issue.

I have used Ukrainian WP as my resource. It is fairly comprehensive; it is fairly reliable.

If Ukrainians as a group want to do literal translations, then I assume that you have a standard and a format for doing that.

So I leave translations to the local users in the language where I am working.

I have done 20 or 25 translations of the page.

Normally local people like the page, and they add some book titles that I could not find.

I assume that they use the catalogue of their university library, or something like that.

Notability of Ruslana early albums

Good evening,

on Czech Wikipedia happened luckily unsuccessful attempt to contest notability of Czech article about Ruslana's album Мить весни. Дзвінкий вітер. But I'm affraid about other albums which preceeded Дикі танці which became well-known worldwide because I'd like to write about these albums soon and I wasn't able to find respective sources which would prove the notability so far.

Would you, please, help me to find these sources about these albums? I searched both Ukrainian and English internet for long but there is hute amount of warez, lyrics, videos or simply empty pages and I don't know where to search.

I don't know notability guidelines of Ukrainian Wikipedia, but in Czech a notability is proved if at least two reliable sources independent on the article's subject reffers about it on the way which is not trivial (so not just tracklist, for example, but at least a little bit longer text about it also.

Mother Ukraina?

Hello,

this is a memorial on the cemetery of Rastatt, Germany. In a description by a local history club it's said to commemorate Ukrainian prisoners of war in WW1. The middle figure is called "Mutter Ukraine" (Mother Ukraine).

I found no evidence of such a figure in Wikipedia or Google. If the term occurs at all, it's applied to Батьківщина-Мати (Київ), which is very different. Does a mythic figure Mother Ukraine exist? Or another figure whom this sculture could mean?

Did Georgia and/or the Ukraine leave the Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK)?

Did Georgia and/or the Ukraine leave the en:Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK)?

If so, are there sources that say so explicitly? A source saying Georgia left the Commonwealth of Independent States is not sufficient because the MAK continued saying Georgia is a member long after Georgia left the CIS. The MAK still says Georgia and Ukraine are members on its website in Russian and in English.

Asturian is alive and in use.

Next September 12 and 13, the Asturian Wikipedia community of users will celebrate with the support of Wikimedia España Chapter the tenth anniversary of Uiquipedia, the free encyclopedia in Asturian. The events will take place in Auditorio Príncipe Felipe (Plaza La Gesta, Oviedo).

The first article in Asturian was «Zazaki», a minority language spoken in Turkey. That first edit was in July 26, 2004. Ten years later, more than 800 000 edits have been made on almost 20 000 articles, and numbers are growing every day with the work of tens of volunteers. And it doesn’t stop there: other Wikimedia projects in Asturian have developed, such as Wikicionary, Wikisource and Wikiquote. Managed by Wikimedia Foundation, all of them make part of a global movement that started in 2001 when Wikipedia started with the goal of delivering freely all human knowledge.

To commemorate this date, Uiquipedia and Wikimedia España are carrying out two days of celebration events so that the projects in Asturian are better known. Literature, poetry music and traditions in Asturian will be present. It’s free and everybody is welcome. In addition, Wikimedia España will have its annual General Assembly in Oviedo.

Відбувається щодня протягом місяця з 1 по 31 липня. Історія У 2000-2004 роках фестиваль відбувався в «Кабінеті муз» у м. Брно у форматі 31 літературного вечора. З 2005 року він поступово розширювався до сучасного стану, коли щовечора проходить два авторські читання, одне присвячене чеській літературі, друге – закордонному почесному гостеві. З часу, коли фестиваль отримав ще й закордонну лінію, гостями були: 2005 рік – Словаччина, 2006 – автори з Берліна, 2007 – білоруські автори, 2008 – канадські автори. Важливою темою дев’ятого фестивалю у 2008 році став письменник Павел Когоут, який того року святкував своє 80-ліття. Липень 2009 року був специфічний тим, що МАЧ розрісся ще на одну лінію під назвою «Діалог Брно – Штутгарт», з нагоди двадцятиліття партнерства міст Брно і Штутгарт, почесним гостем фестивалю була Австрія. У 2010 році до Брна приїхали письменники і письменниці з Франції. Того ж року фестиваль уперше вийшов за межі свого рідного міста, він відбувся в Остраві, у театрі «Стара Арена». Почесними гостями у 2011 році були автори з Польщі, а фестиваль із цього року відбувається також у польському Вроцлаві і словацькому Кошіце, у 2012 році почесними були гості зі Словенії. У 2013 році – німецькомовні автори. У 2014 році – автори з Шотландії, а у 2015 – з України. 2016 рік – гості з Іспанії. З 2015 року фестиваль відбувається також в українському місті Львів у МО «Дзиґа», директор львівської частини фестивалю – Григорій Семенчук. Нині фестиваль щороку має дві лінії: одну презентує почесний гість (31 автор), другу – письменники з Чехії, Словаччини, Польщі, України (разом також 31). Щодня таким чином відбувається два читання, які мають такий формат: після короткого представлення від організаторів письменник сідає за стіл і або веде з глядачами розмову, або відразу починає читати. За бажанням автора зала може бути освітлена чи затемнена. Якщо йдеться про закордонну лінію, то крім автора, є ще перекладач, а авторський текст у перекладі транслюється на екран.
